Usability Research Of My Website

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hello,

My company is planning to make changes to our website. Many of these changes may be valid, but they come from certain managers' likes and dislikes, rather than from outside sources. What resources would you recommend for usability studies of web navigation?

Thanks everyone.

Definately post the URL so we can take a look.

Unless these managers are eCommerce or Usability experts (or spend a lot of their money on eCommerce sites), then to be perfectly frank, their comments are invalid!

You need to ensure that your site, gets visitors excited, intices them in and then converts them to customers. This is often best done by an eCommerce or Usability expert.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and suggest you contact me offline to discuss.

Dale, I have no formal resources for you on Usaility or Navigation (apart from my own consultancy services :-) ).

It might be worth you getting some freindly customers (and prospects) to takea look at the site for you and make some comments, also take a look at the 'webmaster' email address to see what feedback has been recieved about the site.

    Here is my view:

    Design:

    - Consistant and fairly minimal site
    - Well designed
    - "Open An Account Now" - should be on every page in the same place.
    - Consider making the "Newsletter" Link more prominent
    - Good use of Top and Left navigation
    - Consider freshening up the colours used, as the site uses lots of greys. Brighter, fresher colours would make the site more appealing and help attract new business.
    - left hand menu seems to need reorganising and redesigning, I think the links are in trouble of getting ignored

    Information:

    - Good information heirarchy
    - Site is intuitive to use
    - The site appears to provide information as a customer would wish it

    Navigation:

    - Clear access points (top level menu)
    - Nice use of advanced organisation
    - Orientation through breadcrumbs is good
    - Site map works well
    - The site needs a search facility

    Accessability:

    - The styling means that it is accessable to visually impared visitors
    - Fairly easy to use the site with the use of just a keyboard
    - Site tested well on ie 5+, firefox 1.5.0.3 and
    - With the number of HTML validation errors it may not read correctly on netscape 3 and older browsers.
    - Site preforms well down to 800 x 600 resolution

    I hope that helps

    Good Luck

    Hello to everyone

Well I would suggest that any changes to a media which is assessable to everyone should not be made only based on the one man's perspective. it should be followed by a through understanding of customer's need and expectations.
In the link www.khamparia.blogspot.com comprehensive procedure is suggested,

    Have a look.

    Thanks,
