Translation Company - Representing Cultures

Posted by NatashaChernavska on 250 Points
Hello, everyone!

Now I really need a help of a collective mind. I believe you may come up with great ideas!

I have been currently working on a translation company website. The website is going to be translated into several languages, at least 10.

Here is the list:

Spanish
French
Chinese
Haitian-Creole
Portuguese
German
Japanese
Russian
Korean
Vietnamese
Italian

I have created a very nice professional layout, but I would say that the graphics is static: the same layout on every page. I prefer it this way, because it helps a better recognition of a company Internet image. But the owner's request is to implement Flash and variety of graphic expression in the project. Well, we will be able to implement Flash later: it takes time, and I want to launch the project by September.

But in addition to that the owner wants me to decorate each page for the foreign language in a different way. He even wants to decorate every page in a different way, but I would not do that. I will insist on keeping the colors and markup the same, but what I really need is to add some images which will represent the cultures, languages or the countries to add some variety to the translated pages.

I don't want to use images of people, because all images have to look similar and give an impression of a unified style, but we can't afford taking pictures of models.

I also don't want to use flags, because it's beaten. I used the globe image in the header, but I am willing to replace it with something, because it's even heavy beaten in the context of translation services.

So, basically, I need some unified group of images representing different countries (cultures, languages) which will be logically connected, preferably the objects I can photograph myself (I am a photographer with professional camera).

I would really appreciate your input!

Thank you!

Natalia.

I like the idea above of putting some words into a graphic--they might be all the same words in different languages. Maybe a collage with words like "I understand" and "thank you" and "hello" and "sincerely," etc.

If they insist on photos, there are stock photo CDs with international images for lots of countries. With effort, you might be able to stretch to cover most of your languages.

    Good luck,
    Marge
