I Am Back With A New Site, Help Me Out!

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
Last go around I received some great feedback and totally revamped my site.

Keep in mind this is a local window cleaning company, not Microsoft.

I would really like to know if anyone thinks I should add a light coloring to the pages under the copy.

Let me have it!

Paul

I like it.... I agree the writing on the green background needs to be tweeked just a bit.. but, all in all i would say this is a good and effective site for supporting your business.

    Nicely done.

Have you 'linked' up with a Window/Door Company as many windows have moisture between the panes which clients sometimes think is still dirty or a problem for you...?

Referrals from you could help yourself and the client.
    Well done

oops I see it is in the works, perhaps something on Home Page would make it more productive for you....just a thought.

    Paul,
Your site is wonderful; it has a pleasant open feel, not overdone, and I really don't think you should add a light color in the background. The white sunlight/reflection hint crossing over into the green on the left is just a really neat touch, and draws you into the white background behind the text. Clean windows, clean look, you know?

I do agree that you should provide the areas you work. I like the FAQs idea as well. And that could be easily implemented with another sidebar button. Your service description is clear, amiable and succinct. I think it is just great. I especially like how you let your personality come through; I believe in a personalized service business like yours, this is important. Opening my home to someone pleasant is easier than opening it to a professional stick-up-the-butt.

Just a few suggestions (really picky stuff! :) ):
    1. Be sure to include alt text for your images, just a standard accessibility thing. I think it's great that your phone number is one every page (but it is in an image without alt text).

    2. Your Events page is wider than the others, and for consistency/professionalism, that should be the same width as the other pages. The margins between the text and the side of the table is off as well on a couple of the pages. The indentation of the text should be consistent on all your pages.

    3. Consider adding photos on the left sidebar of other homes/businesses of clients. You have photos on some of the pages there, but not all. I do think this is a missed opportunity. This will allow you to further personalize your site, and it's sort of a testimonial, that will be sprinkled on your site. You could even extend your testimonials section this way and add captions to these photos of the happy, satisfied clients' names.

    4. Check https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apaneintheglass.biz%2Fi...
For search engine purposes, these kinds of errors should be fixed. It seems like a lot of errors, but these kinds of errors are actually quite easy to fix. Be sure to check all your pages.

    5. I'm curious as to why your designer put the font tags in the code versus in the css style sheet. This puts more "stuff" in between the search engine and the content, usually, you want to be as simple as possible. Something to think about adjusting, but it does work just as well the way you have it.

All in all your site is definitely above average, and it makes your service look the same. Some of these suggestions are like you cleaning the whole oven, taking it all apart and cleaning every screw, putting it all back together, then forgetting to clean the top left burner. Even if you don't implement these suggestions, you really do have a solid site here. Kudos.

    Best Regards,

I always like to see a "contact us" page, available to collect whatever questions or comments people have, even if they're not asking for a "free quote." Nice site, clear, clean, gets the message across, represents the company well.
