Critique Medical School Website.

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm the marketing coordinator for a medical school, I recently got the job and one of the first things I want to do is change the website, or at least make it more user friendly. As of now I find it somewhat confusing for the visitor, I don't think its properly organized, and lastly I want to make it more appealing. Currently we are getting an average of 65 hits per day, and only about two to three inquiries, I want to change that and be able to get more than 65 hits a day and most importantly increase the percentage of inquiries. I would greatly appreciate any input regarding the website, here is the web page address, www.mpi.edu.

Although I agree that switching to blue may help, I wonder if you are considering your target audience.

How do they find you? You have to optimize the main page for search engine keywords. I would lose the "Welcome to" in you page title.

For your main heading, use an h1 tag. (In Microsoft Front Page, the drop-down box to the left of the font, select heading 1)

Mention something about financial assistance on the main page.

Repeat the keywords that people will be searching for 3 or four times on the page.

Keep in mind that people search for phrases.

It might help to put a brief description of what the occupations you teach actually do.

You might also mention that these are high paying jobs with relatively short training times. (if they are).

Adding this type of content to the page will automatically add keywords.

This will (hopefully) accomplish two things:
Increase the number of visitors, plus increase the number of inquirys.

I haven't had time to do a fuller audit, nor my usual 65 point usability healthcheck, but here goes:

Whats the problem with the colour? Red seems to be your brand colour, it looks good. Red is a sign of strength, good health, physical energy and protection. RED IS GOOD.

You need a stronger link to Home on all pages. Visitors feel happier if the logo is linked to Home.

I think some of the pages are a tad long (https://www.mpi.edu/services.php for example could be reduced in length by better organisation of the top section).

Consider on these longer pages to put a "Top" link at the bottom of them.

The "Apply Now" page seems a nightmare to complete, is all that information necessary? Reducing the site of that could be useful.

I would place the "Newsletter" link above the fold (i.e. near the top) you will get a better response and hopefully more sign-ups through it.

Contact Us page ... reduce the height of the textarea to get the "Send e-mail" button in without scrolling.

The "Related Pages" box is generally in the way of things, consider moving to a two column layout, placing this at the top, right hand side.

I hope this helps, if you want a more comprehensive usability report compling with 65 checks, then please get in touch.

After looking at your site a couple of times.. the thing that turns me off the most is the registration form right there on the front space... To in your face for a school

The color is really a poor choice
