Best Day To Start An Event 4 Busy Event Managers?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We are trying to organize an event management seminar and want to attract as many visitors as possible. Our targets are agency and marketing directors plus project and event managers (pros who organize events). It is going to be a day and a half long seminar starting in the afternoon with social activities and a party in the evening. It will then continue the next day with lectures and workshops. We know the business is hectic during the week so were thinking of starting the social on Sunday afternoon and lectures on Monday. However, we are afraid it will turn people off because we would be cutting into family time. Is Sunday-Monday a good combination or should we consider another one? We need the timing to be optimal, because we are betting our business on it.

When I use to produce corporate events most started on Sunday with a social event. Sunday was a travel day. These event lasted a few days and they were mostly employees or dealers.

If you event is local you might consider Thursday and Friday. Thursday might is a good night to ahve an excuse to go to a party and Friday seems to be a somewhat slow day for many business folks anyway.

Wow betting your business on one seminar where you are trying to to get marketing and event people to attend! You must have the most remarkable product or service since... well never.

Just kidding, but really these folks are amonst the hardest to get to do something, especially a day and a half. I would be interested in hearing about how your event worked.

When I was working in events, my choice would have been Tuesday (non-travel). Past the rush of Monday, but not yet in the thick of friday event duties. If I had to take a day for travel, Wed. would have worked best, back in the office by Thursday.

Most events take up the latter part of the week.
I agree with the previous postings on the fact that starting on a Sunday would be the day most would skip, if they went at all.
I suggest you start midday on Monday, allowing people to travel in that morning. Tuesday make it a full second day with a night event and people can leave at night.
If you want to have a "pre" session you can have that on Sunday specifically for those that are interested in a specific topic.
