Remodeling/painting Name Needed !!!

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
hi all, first post here.. I'm a contractor from California thats moved to Tulsa, OK last year, ive kept my business in California going but im also looking to start up something out here..

my focus is on remodeling/and construction.. but im looking for a more universal name as im intending on INC. right off the bat.. another words im hoping to do multiple things and not be limited to 'joes construction'.. example: im looking for something like ' CastleRock Resources', something that doesnt necessarily describe what we do.. as i may also do industrial janitorial, painting, property maintenance etc.
sorry for the rant, but im at my wits end.. ive checking with the secretary of state here in OK and every name i come up with is already taken... im so fully frustrated !!!!!

HELP !!!

Three words come to mind after reading your post:

    facilities maintenance and repair

    Possible Names:

    Service Pro
    Maintenance and Construction

    Pro Maintenance and Construction
    Complete Facilities Maintenance and Repair

Thinking along those lines. Do you want to use your name in the company name? Are you looking more toward residential or commercial?

I would recommend you NOT pick a name that is universal. You want your brand to be strong enough so that for a generic category like remodeling, they think of your name. If you muddy it up by trying to be all things to all people, your brand becomes confusing and you stand for nothing. After all, I wouldn't expect that you would look to the same company for painting services and janitorial services. Nor would there be any advantage to the customers for a company to have both. I would recommend you pick a distinctive name for each area in which you wish to enter. Most states allow you to incorporate under one name and then have other entities under that like Universal Services, Inc, doing business as "Clean and Shiny Janitorial Services" for tax purposes, but you go out to the Janitorial buying public as Clean and Shiny Janitorial Service."

Given this scenario, call your main company anything - it's just a holding company and not going to be in the public eye. Then, come up with more clever names for each area like:

    REMODELING AND CONSTRUCTION
    Measure 2X Cut 1 Construction
    New and Renew Construction
    Major Minor Construction (military theme)
    Prairie Construction
    Value Construction

Or you could use your CA name here too.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi, Robert,

I happen to live in Tulsa and, once you are armed with whatever excellent ideas are delivered via this forum, why don't you give me a call and we can sit down over coffee and discuss their merits in person. My best (and favorite) clients are the ones who have plans and ideas and just need help pulling all this together. And you really can't beat the dynamic of a face-to-face over a cup of java.

While my expertise is in marketing communications (i.e., copy & design concept development as well as the creative), I've got a network of other professionals that can be of some assistance with your situation. Specifically, I'm thinking I can introduce you to a trustworthy brand manager here and an excellent business lawyer. Then as things come together I can offer services for the promotional/image-building side of things to infuse your new business name into the minds of your target market.

If any of this might interest you, please visit my profile for contact info. I look forward to hearing from you.

thank you all for your time, Donna, let me add that my name could be used, and may be a good marketing strategy toward the good-ol-boy, as its Carpenter.. but my only problem (perhaps i shoulda clarified alittle in my original question/rant) is that i dont just expect to start one co. but i dont want mega tax id's either, as my business in ca. still continues.. i do some real estate investments, and would like to cover myself by incorporating. i intend to hire on a new partner to do excavating, while i still want to target inner city business with maintenance and perhaps cleaning.. but dont want to limit my self to 'carpenters construction and remodeling', i was thinking for example: paramount resources, then if i market my excavating co. just add that to the companies description in the advertisement/marketing. also if i want to remodel ad to the descriptive title paramount resources: room additions, tenant improvements.. etc.. as Wayde said: maybe i could just use some as subsidiaries or dba's, but im not sure of the legality's.
in california to perform any improvements on property you have to obtain a 'contractors license' from the state license board which is much more difficult then it is here, here you simply get a business license and your off..
