Using An Infomercial

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Our business manufactures and distributes window security bars. We are located in Canada and sell through Big Box retail stores here. We sell direct to customers in the U.S. Recently, we paid for the creation of a 5 minute "infomercial" that is presently showing in the U.S.. We have had very little response but we now have the "show" on disk. The question is, what can we do with these disks to generate some awareness of the product? Any ideas?

    Questions and ideas...

what is the cost of the product?
Can it be installed by the consumer?
Have you thought of partnering with an alarm company?
    Do you have a website?

Try putting the CD's in high traffic areas like; retail stores, restuarants or healthclubs. Women usually influence security decisions you may even consider salons. Cut a deal with area pizza delivery places and put them on the pizza boxes.

There is a company called Britevision in the San Francisco area (www.britevision.com) that offers you to advertise on coffee sleeves by zip code. You might consider making a small cd and placing them on the sleeves. They have done direct response marketing with a good deal of success.

    Hi tricia,

    * Put the show on your website.

    * Obtain a direct mail list either from a list broker or media company that is segmented towards whatever demo/socio/eco/psycho group you know purchases your security bars and mail them the disk along with an unbeatable offer.

    * Offer partnership opportunties to "handyman" companies who will not only get a percentage from the door, but all the revenue from the installation.

A few ideas that I hope helps.

There is a wireless alarm company called Tattletale that you might consider partnering with as they have a great website, and hundreds of dealers across the U.S. they are just now going after the consumer market. You could link your websites and cross sell.

You might also try frontgate magazine or sharper image if you product is unique.

Another idea might be to contact AOL or one of the other internet service providers and co-op a direct mail program with your disc and theirs mailed together.

Keep doing infomercials in different areas. They are dirt cheap and your get a better overall exposure versus, prodcing and distributing thousands od cds, of spending the 3 times as much money to advertise you website where people can finally view it.

Just keep after it. Keep hitting different cities, different time zones, etc.

    Good Luck!
