Wendy, is this a general question, or do you have a specific situation in mind? If you have a specific situation, we can be much more helpful if you can you give us LOTS more details, e.g. the country you are in, your industry, the size of your company, the product or service you are promoting, a link to your web site if possible, the challenges you are facing, your channels of distribution, the size of your sales staff, your current marketing program, the perspectives of decision makers in your organization on marketing... etc... etc... etc...

The more details you can give, the more helpful we can be.

    hi Wendy

Dave is right that you should have provided us with some more information as every business entity irrespective of its size, ownership and kind of business does take the help of marketing department. Marketing is a function and the backbone of any organization as it pushes the product through advertising, product promotion etc.. in the market for bigger sales. The company’s marketing department usually in small companys handles the advertising and all promotional mix. The company’s marketing or the advertising department usually relies on outside experts often the advertising agency. this department usually have a set out budget for all advertising expenditure based upon the percentage like 3 to 7 on its overall expected sales forecast and the department has a limited creative function primarily a supervisory one

Note: Wendy if you can provide us some more information like is it a manufacturing unit, by product, by end users, by geography, by product or by media than we can help u in a more better way, hope this will help you

    Gracefully yours

Ok, let's see if I can clarify this a little.

You have a small to mid-sized company with essentially no marketing plan for the remainder of the year. The company is already established within the industry, so publicity/name recognition isn't really an issue. I would say the issues to address are moving product and making customers aware of a new (better) pricing structure while enforcing our message of "added value" (customer service, education, etc). What methods would you recommend?

    Hi Wendy,

As a Director of Marketing, here are my top 4 marketing strategies. Each strategy is supported by numerous tactics and my budget is mostly spent on 2 and 4.

    1. DEFINE and IDENTIFY the most strategically important customer/clients (Target Audience)

    2. DEVELOP & EXECUTE ways to ACQUIRE the most strategically important customer/clients (Generate Leads)

    3. INCREASE revenues from strategically important current customers/clients (Cross Sell, Up Sell)

    4. INCREASE the perceived value of the firm to all audiences (Image)

    Hope this helps,
    April

That's helpful, April. But can you expound a little about how you go about achieving each of the steps? (specifically 2 and 4)

Tactics I use to generate leads are primarily web based - SEO, PPC, enewletters, etc. In addition, I have had great success hosting brick and mortar events to educate targeted verticals on our products and services. I use our online event marketing software to promote and manage the events.
