Misconception

Hi there,

I need your valuable insights and advisory on this:

I am working as a recruiter in the security industry. My company is a very establish organization in the industry. The primary problem that i am facing is that no matter how many adverts and publicity we place in the press, there is always a perpetual case of poor turn up rates and difficulty in hiring...

The reason i believe is that its due to the perception of the public out there which is imperative...feeling that a job associated with security is something unglamourous and unprestigeous.

Is there anyway to make the public see it from a different light than condemning it at first sight.

Appreiciate your feedbacks.

Thks
Dominic

I wonder who is responsible for your adverts. Is it done in-house or outsourced?
Most probably you have problem with ' selling' your company to the public. How far did you go into changing copy and creative behind?
    Did you test it extensively?

One way to change the perception is a series of ads featuring some of your best security people. Why did they join? What do they love about their job? What problems do they have? What's the #1 misperception people have about their job? Are they married? What does their partner think?

You want to tell stories that make prospective hires see themselves in someone else's shoes and think, "That could be me. I'd like to do what they are."

Changing perception is also a gradual thing - you need to re-educate people and get them to change their beliefs.

    Hi Dominicgoh,

Hope you're having a great day but more importantly a Great Life. I have had extensive working experience in the Security industry working for the #1 and #2 Security companies in the country at the time which were TYCO ADT and SBC AMERITECH. I spent over a half a decade in the Security Industry and ranked in the top 100 among Security Consultant's during that time and I have to be honest, it's hard for me to believe that you're having trouble recruiting people. My expert colleagues have all addressed some very important questions in general but could you answer some additional specific questions.

The Security industry as you well know is a very broad industry that goes from designing devices for specific systems such as Burglar Alarm, Fire, Camera, Access, Intercom systems to a wide range of integrated systems too! Furthermore you have Secret Agents, CID's, CIA's, FBI, PI's (Private Investigators) and then Security Guards. So when you say you're recruiting for the Security industry what exactly do you mean? Put another way could you please be more specific and reference which branch of that industry you're operating in so that we can at least narrow our marketing down to help you.

The best marketing is created when like like a Boy Scout you try to start a fire with a magnifying glass. You know first you have to have the right angle and then the right position from your source (the Sun) and the object you're trying to set on fire. Futhermore you must tilt the glass at the right position and hold the tool study till you get a fire from the intense rays of the lense landing upon the source. The same thing goes for advertising. Most individuals are not projecting the right information toward the right (specific audience) using a streamlined laser intense ray of powerfully magnified words. Then when they do and get started they don't have the patiance of a Boy Scout to wait it out till things start burning and catch on Fire. So how can we help you get your audience on FIRE for the security industry? Please tell us who are you recruiting, with what and why? Thank you. REMEMBER... our only real problem in life is our failure to be "MORE Creative" than we’ve ever been. If you “Invent” your opportunity YOU WILL most definitely create your future. I'm only an email away from you if you need further guidance, direction or you'd just like to talk more about it. You see I love it when my customers are happy. Are you happy yet? Is this information helping you? Is there anything else I can do for you?

    Your Servant,

Lovingly Deremiah *CPE (Customer Passion Evangelist)
