Strategies For Effective Leadership Events

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hey,

I am the President and Founder of The Entrepreneur's Club at College in New York. I am filled with ideas, but would like the feedback of everybody on what events and projects could appeal to the students on campus. What strategies should be employed to get people involved, how should I go about sponsorship for major events and is there a certain game plan I should have in orgainizing each activity and event? As business individuals and possible entrepreneurs, what events and activites would you like to see or expect on a college campus?

Most people have already said to get student feed back so I won't mention it, but you could do a VC workshop. The 2 business clubs in my school holds a VC workshop with VC from the area (Silicon Valley) to come and it's like free and open to anyone including the parents.

And in the end they announce a competition that would be held at their headquarters in 6+ months for the students who wish to compete with a business plan. They would get help from advisers too. It's pretty helpful and it got a lot of people excited, but then again it depends on if you can get a hold of a VC group to help you out.

Speakers bring a lot of people in, depending on what kind of speaker and where they worked once. The club I was in got one of the chief marketing officers of Apple which was interesting since he worked in the start up of Apple. Also one of the speakers, I forget his name, started a company in high school and now is making millions off of it. This really encourages members to start on their own.

Company tours, maybe? I don't know if college student want to do those. But those are helpful to see how a company runs and so on.

And competitions like the Stock Market Game or/and the Virtual Business game with cash prize brings a lot of people to participate.

I'm only saying things that worked at my school. There are probably some factors that might change it since you're in college and on the other side of the country that may make it not work.
