Website Design Feedback

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
We are launching our new website and I would like your honest critical assessment.

You can see the websites at [inactive link removed]

Does this website:
1. Create a professional impression?
2. Tell you clearly what we do?
3. Compel you to purchase products from us?
4. Present information in an easy to use interface?

Any other comments about any other aspect of the website are more than welcome.

Thank you in advance for your time.

    1) I can barely read the text on the main homepage graphic, so I have no idea what you sell or why the site exists.

    2) Your language eeds more "action words". Instead of "format type" on the left menu, you need "Buy Games".

    3) The top navigation is wrong. It should be focused on getting people to buy things - try having it be "PS3, Wii, Xbox, Hot Deals and Top Sellers" get rid of the about us and other pages - put those as links at the bottom.

You should run a free report at www.WebsiteGrader.com to look at the non-visual and more structural elements of the website.

FIRST I THINK YOU NEED TO PUT SOMETHING IN THE SPACE WHEN THE PAGE OPENS ITS A LITTLE MISLEADING, AT FIRST I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS GOING TO POP UP BUT ACTUALLY YOU NEED TO SCROLL DOWN. PUT THE PRODUCTS RIGHT WHERE YOU CAN SEE THEM. ALSO THE TABS FOR WHAT YOU ARE SELLING NEEDS TO BE BOLDER TRY A DIFFERENT FONT OR SOMETHING THEY DONT REALLY POP AT ME LIKE THIS IS WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER. IF YOU DO THESE I THINK THAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE A GAMERS SITE ADN MEMROABLE. MAYBE ADD SOME GRAPHICS,AND MAKE IT SYMETRIC RIGH NOW ITS LITTLE DRY.

Have you looked at in FireFox - it looks terrible, all garbled up. I'd also change your favicon away from the shopping cart, everyone knows that they'll be there shopping, but no one wants to be reminded of it.

The shadow on the icon makes 'film' challenging to read. The text on the main graphic is nearly impossible to read. Otherwise, to me, the layout looks faily standard. My background with layout isn't in marketing so I don't have much to offer from that perspective.

The site does not "hit you on the head" with the fact you are selling games.

That Christmas graphic on the front has no value and you can not read it. Replace with a call to action and the fact that people can buy the games. Better yet put a product special there and add the call to action.

Looking correct in various browsers is indeed your #1 problem.

#2 is telling the user what's so special about your site. Do you have the best prices? The best package deal? Customer support that's available 24/7?

Is this a christmas site or a gaming site?

The site is amature and you will find it difficult
to sell much, and you have to scrol down to see what
    the site is about.

I would have to answer no to all four of the questions you asked. However, you are asking the right questions. I agree with much that has been said about your site by the others so far. At this point the site does not navigate well and it isn't very appealing. Have you thought about buying a template site and modifying it to your needs? Perhaps hire someone to design the site and improve the layout then you can add your own content.

    best of luck

    hi andrew,

is it possible to make slight changes in the website now. I am myself launching my new look website and had been facing a lot of problems so read a lot of articles and book on web marketing.

    1) I felt that your website should clearly state "what you have got to offer" "or what should a visitor look for in your website" so that he is not confused.
    2) secondly, the santa claus photograph and the text written there is not clear.

First, it is indeed difficult to see what the website is about. Try getting a more "gaming" type of logo. Also try to enlarge the logo a bit - it does loook very boring - that will also solve the problem of people having to scroll down to find out what youre selling.

The left navigation bar is very well done and straight forward. Try to move the "quick search" more to the top as this is somethig that people might want to access quickly.

The colours are consistent and easy on the eyes - also not using a large amount of images and simple font increase the user friendliness of the site - this helps people with slow connections. But, as a gamer this site does not look like the kind of site I would visit again because of the colours and the layout - it looks to happy. I want a bcakground that shows me that you understand what I want - I AM YOUR TARET AUDIENCE! Look at gamespot - thay have excellent navigation and an incredible user interface.

Remove the santa pic and rather us the two candles on opposite sides of the offer - this will make it look less "cristmassy".

    Good luck with the site

    Regards
    JK
