Slogan Needed For Teen Barbershop Quartet

Posted by Anonymous on 300 Points
My 15 yr old nephew has started a barbershop quartet named "Element." All the kids are 15-17 years old and are trying to have a "young hip" kind of image to contrast the sterotype of fat middle-aged men that usually are in these singing groups. Their colors are black and light blue. Any suggestions on a tagline/slogan? HELP!!! They have a show next weekend. The goal is to get gigs doing weddings, anniversary parties, etc.

They are committed to using "Element" as their quartet name. They need a slogan that goes with that is young and catchey. Sorry if I wasn't clear.....

Wow. THese are all great. What we need is a slogan, not a name. Like Coke's "Have a coke and a smile" or "It's the real thing." I have unsuccessfully been trying to think of something that kind of brings in something clever with the name "Element" but unlike all of you, I lack complete creativity.

    THank you!!!!

Oh, I like that. What about something that plays on the meaning of the word element. Scientifically it is defined as a substance made entirely from one type of atom. Something about Purity? A New Approach to Pure Sound? I don't know, just trying to inspire something. I also like being able to tie in the barbershop element to it (no pun intended).

Because "Element" doesn't have any obvious relationship to what they do, the tagline probably should say something about harmony or music. I wouldn't try to get too clever about making "element" mean something here. It will sound very contrived, at best.

Since they're committed to keeping "Element," better to put your effort into the tagline.

BTW, do they have some samples of their music available on the web? YouTube? Other? Do they sing the old classics or new music, or do they compose their own material? Song parodies? Who's the audience -- adults or other teens?

The audience is pretty broad. The most traditional audience is old patriotic people who love the G-rated nature of barbershop songs and jokes. ;-) There is a real push to get young people into the barbershop community so there has been some effort put into arranging more contemporary songs into a barbershop format. I agree that Element has nothing to do with music-- most will think of the skateboard company. ;-) They have already competed as "Element" or I would be on a real push to change the name itself. I agree that the tagline needs to say something about what they do.

Posting on YouTube is a great idea! They are singing at a Christmas show this weekend and I wanted to have them give out fliers announcing their availability for Xmas parties/shows/events.

THanks to all for your incredible efforts here... I know this is a difficult assignment!!!

    hello nancy,
Using the play on the word 'element' between the periodic chart and the music chart, how about the slogan being 'The Element, the new kids on the chart'
    hope this helps some

The purpose of the tagline is to tell the audience about the benefit of the quartet. Many of the suggestions that you've gotten that you considered names are actually great taglines, which focus on the what the quartet is about.

I would encourage them to add "Barbershop Quartet" to the end of their name. It won't create confusion, and it will build on their name.

Spending time being clever trying to tie in the name won't help get the name out - it'll be a generic pun.

    For example:

    Element Barbershop Quartet
    The New Quartet Heads

    Element Barbershop Quartet
    Phat Four Teens

The Element(s) of a Barbershop Quartet are the
four-part chords which each of the four parts having its own role. The harmony is comprised of melody, tenor, bass, baritone.

    The Elements
    Teens in Harmony

    The Elements
    Youth Strikes a Chord

    The Elements
    Striking a Chord for Youth

    The Elements
    Where Melody Meets the Ranges

I'd stick with something that refers back to the a capella virtues of the sound and the 4 elements creating the sound.

I don't know how to thank all of you enough for your INCREDIBLE ideas!!!! The discussions at the dinner table have focused exclusively on your amazing talents. We had trouble reaching a consensus, but "Youth Strikes A Chord" won by a narrow margin. I am completely in awe of your collective creativity.

Really, just WOW. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!
