Photo Setting/shot

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hi all,
I hope you are all keeping well...

I am working on a campaign at the moment to raise awarenss on a particular financial issue. The first phase we have identified is to get a picture in the paper (phase 2 is PR piece).

Topic we would like to discuss further is Banks making great profits in both rising & poor market.

Re. our photo - we will have our CEO; our local Financial industry partner in it. However, I don't just want a normal headshot one or the two guys shaking hands as I think there are just too many of these. However, what are your thoughts?? Is this (2 guys shaking hands) the best photo if we what to get it printed??
Should we try something different & if so what???? Setting matter?? Photo shot from high looking down?

Also, in sending this to our media list - is there anything we should say??? Any rules to follow when sending in photos to papers / industry publications / magazines??

Thanks in advance & I look forward to hearing from you.

Media are looking for the story or the angle behind the photo, not just a photo. So the purpose needs to come first, then set up the photo to fit the purpose. What is the story you're trying to tell with the photo? How can you set up the photo to better tell the story?

It's unclear why the photo is coming before the "PR piece." Aren't you sending a press release with the photo? As an editor, why should I run the photo? What's the whole purpose?

Why are you including your CEO and financial industry partner in the photo? Start with your objective for "phase one", and then create the photo to achieve that objective. (Or rethink your "phase one" and "phase two" approaches if a photo alone turns out to not make sense, given your objectives.)

I'm assuming one person in the photo is a bank rep and the other is a customer. Instead of shaking hands. Have the customer sit (or stand) on the bank rep's shoulders. It's more unusual, and will highlight the bank's relationship of supporting their customers (or even, a human pyramid, with bank people at the bottom layers, and customer at peak). Everyone should of course be in jacket/tie to reinforce the message.

I'm really going to plead ignorance here - I missed what your company is all about. What is the purpose of the pr? And, as previously noted, you have to include your pr with your photo. It would have to be pretty incredible info to get two shots (1 PR and 1 Photo). Also, does your info have the newsworthiness to be used in radio and/or television?

Look at why a newspaper would want to run your pr and your photo. Are you doing something positive by offering a service that the readers will want? Or are you taking the banks to task for preying on the poor with high interest rates?

Seems like the only time I see banks in the paper is when they're either being beat up or when they're being philanthropic and supporting local charities.

So far, based on my limited knowledge, you may be better served to purchase adspace.

Sorry, I can't be of more assistance. I need to know more to provide any insight from my point of view.

    Good Luck!

I would try to figure out a lifestyle angle. How does your situation affect people’s lives and then put the exec in that situation. It tells a story.
