Door To Door Carpet Cleaning Service Advertising

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello,

My name is Jonathan and I run a carpet cleaning service I was wondering if door to door advertisment would be effective. I have a bulk rate account with USPS, but was wondering if door to door would be just as affective. And not mention I can save money with children being out of school for spring break. The plan is leave full color brochure and coupon or gift certificate with brochure in door I plan on covering several subdivisons older homes with the theory older more estastablished money. All help would be appreciated especially with coupons vs. gift certificate approach.

I think anything more personal than mail will outpreform. I read every door hanger I get. I bought my window and gutter cleaning service from a door hang.

this is a good time for this. Spring is starting and they are getting rid of the winter dirt. I would make sure your message (graphics) are consistant and back your door hanging with a post card campaign.

When you are doing a job, hit their neighbors. Do some canvassing -- telling them they're right next door, block-- and you want to introduce your services. That adds credibility.

But keep all graphics/message consistant. That way each time they see your truck/mailing/door hang-- it will reinforce the message.

I like the door-to-door deal. Especially if you're well groomed and articulate. I don't care for the door-to-door tatoo-covered-tee-shirt-wearing drop out delivering flyers.

Why not try it and see? Perceptions differ in regions.

As Carol has mentioned, once you're at one home in the area, the neighbors are curious. In fact, a simple guerrilla thing to do is park your spare van (with advertising on the side) on the streets in the neighbor hood, moving it every hour. Also park it near the traffic centers (school pick up/drop off, grocery store, post office, etc.) to get people seeing your business name "everywhere".

Just play a role of your potential client:
    - How long do you need a carpet cleaning?
    - When this kind of thought pop out of your mind, how do you find a contact of a service provider. on the door of refrigerator? right on the telephone? ....

if so, a door 2 door is okie but not enough. Think of how to get your contact at the easy to access place with some POSM or gift.

Depending on where you live, door to door may or may not work but it is free to try. Direct mail is getting expensive. If you want to try send first class and make sure you have a good mailing list. Many lists are garbage these days. Do you have a website? If so try some local pay per click advertising. You can control the zip codes that your ad shows in to control your spending.

    Best of luck

I think door to door is good approach I’ll suggest not to spend money on a full color brochure but in a well designed coupon or gift certificate, people toss brochures but not coupons. If you have a good copy/text, your coupon/certificate could work as a brochure as well. People perceive coupons as a discount resource and gift certificates as a document with monetary value (like gift cards), so depending on your promotion you can choose, both are good promotional tools.

    Good luck!
