Generating Web Sales For Educational Toy For Kids

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
An acquaintence has developed an educational toy for kids. He wants to sell it strictly from his website, however he only gets about 50 hits per week (but 2-3 sales from those hits). His dilemma: how to get much more traffic (of potential buyers) to his website. What advertising/PR efforts should he undertake? He is a one-person show, with very little money, so he'll have to do it on his own. I'll appreciate any insights.

I would recommend wrapping the ecommerce part around WordPress.

It is free to use online under the www.yourname.wordpress.com banner or you can install the free version on your own server under www.yourname.com.

See https://www.wordpress.com (hosted on their servers)
    Or https://www.wordpress.org (your own install).

It is total seo friendly, has many free themes, and even more free plugins.

If you use the wordpress to not only as a cms but more importantly to blog. Become the main resource of related information relative to your product. Remember..........Blog often and regularly and your blog can be on Google within 20 mins!

Couple this with Google Analytics so you can track who visiting, unique vistors, page views, where from, links etc so you can tweek your site according to the results.

    See https://www.google.com/analytics - again free

    Hope this helps

The best ways I have found to get people talking about/visiting a web site are:

    * include your url on everything! (business cards, email tag lines, stationary,...)

    * Put a 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper in your cars back window with your url - nothing else. Who can resist checking the site?

    * post responses in forums and include your url.

    * print business card sized cards with site name and url. Leave them every where (leave one in books at the library, give them out on buses, ask permission to give out cards and explain product at PTA meetings)

    * use a free application to submit site to search engines (submitwolf is great).

    * Provide content on the web site (What should parents look for in selecting an educational game? etc...) Free content will generate traffic.

    * press releases - there are many sources on the web for info on writing press releases and several sources of editors email addresses (google - newspaper editor email address)

By using these techniques I was able to generate over 5,000 unique visitors/day for the three weeks prior to a "Sportsman's Expo" site for an event in the middle of Nebraska, and many online ticket sales. It is not easy, but it works and can be done on a limited budget!
