Preemptive Advertising

I would like to gather thoughts on advertising to a targeted geographical area before a sales team has ever set foot in it. Our sister company is targeting our current state during startup and going into a particular state by October. We have chosen to advertise at a state level and have an option to advertise in both areas . Has anyone experienced this and what worked for you and what didn't? How far ahead did you run ads, etc. Thanks!

    Building awareness before your sales team hits the ground is a common practice. It builds up anticipation and is part of a good product launch. If you are going to advertise a product that isn't available yet - its common to place "coming soon" or "to be released..." on the advertisement.
