Ideas For Cross Promotion Of Photoshoot?

Posted by Anonymous on 100 Points
Marketing is not my strong suit but I'm trying to get better. I have been offered a job to photograph a reception happening at a local spa. The owners are wining and dining their top customers.

They will hire me by the hour and I will provide them the CD of the best images. I'd like to come to the table with some other ideas to generate some additional revenue on the job but also provide the Spa with some benefit.

Any thoughts on how to maximize this type of job?

I would post the images online in hopes of print sales (but that doesn't benefit the spa). I'd really like to come up with a way to promote both of our businesses.

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Cross promotion is always a good idea and you're smart to be looking for options.
Photos of top customers don't really have a lot of interest to anyone other than the spa and those customers do they ?
If that is the case maybe you could offer to do some nice posed shots as well as the cover shots and event shots , and have the Spa offer those images to the customers themselves. Anyone can snap a picture with their camera phone but you can offer quality pictures to everyone. Maybe have them downloadable through your site to help drive traffic in your direction.
Does the hotel or restaurant where the event is being held need some quality photos for their own promotional purposes. You could offer those free of charge, again post them on your site, and maybe get a foot in the door there.
Are the customers of any local interest or of note in your area ? If so, offer the shots to a local or regional newspaper of the event.
    Good luck.

I believe the the reception will be held at the Spa from what I gather. I don't know how prominent the customers are but the spa is high end so there may be locals of note. I'm still trying to think of ways of doing something for the clients that benefits the spa and me. Hmmm.

Then the posed photos might still be an idea. The people attending get a quality photo of themselves courtesty of the spa and your name is on it. Add it to the spa's bill.
If you've ever done any freelance writing you might also want to figure out a good story angle and do a story with pictures for the local newspaper or for a spa magazine or trade publication.
And if you're going to be getting good photos I'd certainly get some extras that you could negotiate with the spa later for their own promo purposes.
In the end this may be a good opportunity for you to make contacts, be seen, have your card available etc rather than actually score some extra $$$.
