Press Release Distribution: To Wire Or Not

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I would like to find out from PR folks in the community what you believe is more effective in terms of successful press placements: press release distribution via Business Wire/PR Newswire - OR - email/fax distribution via Bacon's/Cisions or Burelles/Luce distribution services.

Of course, if your favorite method of distribution isn't either one of these, please share...I'd love to hear all of your ideas and opinions!

All of these services are fine. The key is making sure your press release is actually newsworthy, and targeted to the right publication and the right person at the publication.

My best luck has always been owning the Bacons or Burelles and sending our releases personally. And I don't just email them, I also mail and fax.

I also use about 20 other free and low cost distribution services for Google and SEO purposes. You can find a good collection of these in the Industry Contact Directory published by the National Mail Order Association. FYI: https://www.nmoa.org/catalog/industrycontactdirectory.htm

    Hi there,

I tend to use a mixture of methods depending on the topic of the release and my audience.

If I'm trying to reach traditional media, I'll pitch the press personally. I always send the release to them by their preferred method - email or fax.

If I want my release picked up by RSS feeds, bloggers, and other social media outlets, then online distribution works best.

    Good luck.
