Good Pr Book?

Posted by melissa c on 50 Points
I am the only marketing person at a small but international software company and wear many hats: graphic design, writing, online marketing and PR. I have many years of experience with all of these but PR! So, could anyone recommend a good book on PR? I don't want to be one of those people who think PR is only a press release! :-)

Thanks!
Melissa

Publicity Primer by Darcy Silvers is a good one. It's an ebook.

Here's an article, 8 Steps to getting free press.

    Melissa,

I highly recommend The Practice of Public Relations by Fraser P. Seitel (w. Foreword David Rockerfeller). Mr. Seitel writes about the integrated communications approach, listening to and addressing your various audiences (encompassing media relations, investor relations, advertising, community affairs, government relations, etc. ). You'll find examples and descriptions galore that will help you get a better understanding of the field.

This book is a reference for communications professionals and is used as a college textbook. The author is a brilliant individual and a good man who knows what he writes about.
When Mr. Seitel was a senior executive at a financial services conglomerate, I had the pleasure to be on his team and learned much. He willingly shared his knowledge.

    Good luck and happy reading.
