What Are The Best Ways To Trigger Ad Concepts?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I’m the publisher of a training and concept dev tool for ad and marketing animals. We are just now starting development of the 2009 release of our Creative Director product, and would appreciate your input.

Q: What are the two or three most effective things you do to trigger advertising and marketing ideas?

Thanks, Steve

The best ways to get creative, for me as a copywriter and during brainstorming sessions are:

reading magazines (doesn't matter what kind cosmo, conde nast, ideal living) cos there's bound to be something there to catch your eye and creativity

look at photos with shock value, a punk band, a rock concert, a crazy skater doing a 360 on a vert ramp, it somehow stimulates your memory to think of something similar or a sentiment that could work well with your current state of mind

listen to classical music, if vivaldi isn't your thing then download string quartet tributes to modern bands of today. it rocks!

and the last tip...which i've read from all the books...get out of the office or conference room. Look at an art exhibit, catch a movie, stroll around the mall, whatever...One way to inspire new ideas is to be in a new place and not the stuffy walls that you stare at everyday

Hope this helps, these are stuff i got from different books (which is great too but takes up too much time though) and i've personalized them to my tastes to make it work better for me.

    Good luck!!

Put up pictures of the people I'm targeting.

    Look at the competitor's ads.

Look at images that for another industry's campaign, but similar demographic.
