I Am Considering A Career In Sales

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I am considering a career in selling shopping cart advertising, has anyone done this before, and if so, how lucrative was it? How easily sold are the customers on average? How many times were you rewarded with a renewal of the contract? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I consider myself a big dog in sales-- and yes I considered it. I did ride alongs. I tried it, accepting a position. And frankly-- I sucked at t. Yes, there is big bucks-- potentially == but its hard. There are so many forms of advertising out there-- their whole premise is "they saw your ad" so it must be ok. Don't expect them to welcome you with open arms. These guys want a one call close-- if its like the concept I knew. Not a consultative sell-- which is my throne.

My advice, do a drive along. Then really sit-- can I say their scripted words. Do I really believe that this adds measurable value.

Having said that-- I have coached clients on selling this with good success. Most of my advise is on handling their rejections and follow ups

Ah OK - the offline shopping carts.

Like anything, you have to believe in what your selling and I know that statement sounds really obvious - but unless you believe in something - what's the point?

I would suggest researching this medium outside of the propaganda that you get from the agency you plan to go work for. Place yourself in the businesses' shoes that you plan to go sell this advertising space to. Would you personally dump your advertising dollars into Shopping Cart Advertising Space? If the answer is Yes, then the gig might be right for you.
