Press Kits For Rodeos

Your creative ideas are appreciated and needed . . . .
I send out press kits (CD and hard copy) for pro rodeos, which are annual events in their communities.
What can I do to make the press kits stand out and get noticed? Last year, I sent hat boxes to the media with cowboy hats in them, and the releases tied in red bandanas. (That was an excellent idea from someone on this forum!)
Any new ideas for this year? Thanks in advance for your time - - -

    Seems like you have a generous budget. Then why don't you send out Omaha Steaks this year. There is an obvious association with cattle beast and cowboys. I think they actually send them out in dry ice.

    Actually, my budget isn't quite that "beefy" (pun intended!) but that is a good idea. Steaks might be good to send to very major media whose attention I really want to get.

    Anybody else? The creativity on this forum is wonderful and I appreciate every bit of it.

    What a fun project!

    Gift certificates to a steak restaurant?

    A rodeo video game?

    A toy holster and gun set may work for some and offend others.

    A bag of plastic toy cowboys and indians (like those green army men).

    A cake in the shape of a horse!



    Actually the hat idea was quite good. Ask some of your intended press targets if they liked it and would want it again. That could be your "brand" as it were.

    A lariat (lasso) and a little booklet on how to rope a steer.

    What a fun project!

    Some more:

    You could wrap the press release with a bolo tie.

    A small cowboy boot shaped cake, or brochure, the release itself?

    A pair of spurs, a belt buckle.

    If you are targeting the press in each geographic area of the rodeo:
    Invite them to roping lessons, to participate in a free rodeo day for the press only. Invite them to ride a mechanical bull, rodeo clown lessons.

    A box of road apple candy. I have seen it!

    I have thought of the "road apple" idea before but not sure how to present it . . .

    How about tucking the release into a single cowboy boot, along with an invitation to a "boot-scootin' boogie" media event? You can clip the media pass to the boot as well, or suspend the media pass from a bolo tie that comes with the boot.

    What's your online kit like? You can include web video clips from last years' rodeos and greetings from some of the rodeo stars. That goes a long way toward sharing the feel of the rodeo in a way a printed kit can't. It also extends your invitation list to second and third-tier media who might still cover your event but might not merit the expense of the full mailed kit.
