Can I Get Your Opinion?

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Hi everyone,

We have recently completed developing web-based video/web conferencing software targeted at small to medium sized businesses.

Our main marketing message is "Cut 50% off your travel costs...or you don't pay. Plus, get 2 free web cameras...yours to keep...even if you decide to cancel."

We have a website videoliveconferences and we are ramping up to launch a marketing campaign shortly.

The problem I'm having is I don't believe the platform is 100% ready. I think it needs to be laid out easier and to look "prettier"!

So can any one give me your opinion? Is my gut right or am I being too picky?

You can try out our free trial that allows you to have up to 10 guests in the conference, all can be seen/heard on video, presenter can give ppt presentations, share your desktop, and chat live.

I'm looking for some feedback/opinions on ease of use.

Thanks for any feedback! Also, feel free to comment on the website as well!

Sonja

After searching around for specific information, I discovered that www.videoliveconferences.com appears to be your landing page, and www.videoliveconferences.com/webteam/ is "the rest of the site".

Generally I think it has all the components of a good landing page, however, despite it being a proven method to increase conversions, I have a personal disdain for any professional company's landing page that "masks" or limits access other key information about their product / company. I felt like I was playing some video game that clicking on the secret link brought me to the next level of the game.

It has a flavor of deception and scam (like sites that are 127 paragraphs of greatness before "send us $39.99 for our Book of Secrets" ), but with the intention of not clogging a prospect's mind with "unnecessary information". The BUY NOW button in the first paragraph set the perception for me of what was / wasn't to follow.

    1. No demo / screen shots to see what it looks like.
    2. No statement of the hardware set-up. It appears you need a microphone (compared to some / all competitors using a telephone.) No mention of "what if I have my own camera"
    3. Cost (and method) to purchase extra cameras (aren't they a bit pricey?).
    4. No 14-day trial offer on this page
    5. Top Navigation choices changes often between sides of the site and different pages (Like 14 Free Trial tab doesn't appear until you're on Why Choose VLC, but isn't shown on other supporting pages)

Until I navigated through the 14-Day Trial link, I was unaware / unable to access the User's Guide, the Features, the User's Guide, and Marketing navigation tabs (which I consider key buying information). I also was unable to get back to the landing page once I got into the 14-day trial area.

As for the conversion power of landing page:
    1. The items above (for me) detract from buyer confidence.
    2. It does include a immediate call to action = Good
    3. It does include a guarantee and trial - Good
    4. It does include testimonials, and savings = Good (but I think they are supposed to be near the points of what problem is being solved by your product)
    5. A personal touch by the owner, multiple ways of customer support
    6. Eye path down the right column.

Overall I like it (technically) and I don't (my personal dislike for "I'm an idiot consumer so don't give me access to the information").

I do think some more work would pay off:

    1) I'd like to see the quality of a conference. Can you show some recorded conferences?

    2) It appears that your product is platform independent (can work with either a Mac or Windows). If so, say that explicitly - since that's a huge benefit to your customers.

    3) Your home page has too much text, and the benefit statement isn't as strong as you could make it. "Keep Your Competitive Edge" and "Get More Work Done - Faster" aren't strong benefits. Since you have a video platform - show more images.

    4) On your website, I wouldn't put anything about the president of VideoLive Conferences. No one cares - what they care about is the clear benefits to video conferences.

    5) Some technical qns:
    - How does this compare to iChat?
    - Is there a facility to record the conference?7) Can your solution also be used by people that don't have video cameras (so they can see the video, but if they have a microphone, they could at least do audio)?
    - Is there a minimal speed Internet connection required?
    - Can people with cell phones (i.e., iPhone) use it?

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for your feedback!

    To answer your questions...

    1) I agree we need more screen shots of the program

    2) As for hardware set-up, only the presenter needs to do a 2 minute software installation - the guests do not. They simply click on a link in their email invitation to attend the conference

You need a microphone to send audio - but you do not have to have a web cam. You can still see the conference and be heard. The program will work with any web camera - not just ours.

    3) Right now, we are not selling extra web cameras - but that's a good idea.

    4) I'll recheck the navigation of the site - do you think a Free Trial should be on every page?

    5) The users guide is program specific - but I see what you mean that it should be more accessible.

Thanks again - extrememly helpful tips!

    Jay,

    Thanks for the feedback!

Here's some answers to some of your technical questions:

    1) The program is not compatible with Mac - we're working on that for the next release

    2) Yes, you can do audio only if you don't have a web camera. Not everyone likes to be "seen"!

    3) There is not a feature to record. That takes up a lot of expensive bandwidth and our fees would then be way more expensive than our current $79 dollars for up to 10 guests.

But we may offer that in a future release as a pay-as-you-need service.

    4) The minimal internet speed is 150K. Slower speeds will still allow you to see the conference but you will not be able to be seen/heard.

    5) I've not used Ichat so I can't answer this intelligently. This is not a "chat software" though. There is live chat between the presenter and the guests. No chat between guests though.

    6) I will ask my programmers about Iphone - I'm not sure if it will work!

Again, I really appreciate your feedback...and especially this very HELPFUL forum!
