Client Won Industry Award, How To Promote?

Posted by kate on 125 Points
Greetings! Need some creative ideas for our financial planner client. He recently won a "4 Under 40" award from a national industry magazine, and wants to advertise the heck out of it. It's a prestegious award to our client, but we are struggling with how to make this relevant to prospects and current customers? Need ideas for a strategic approach. Any ideas welcome.

Start by updating the website in light of the news, include it in your email communications / newsletter - have it framed for in-office. Create a video for upload with a short interview documentary style. Blast the video out to the sites. All communications for the next year will re-enforce the message.

What does it do? or mean?

If it's a prestigious, recognized publication, put out a news release announcing the award to area news outlets. In it, rather than just announcing the award was won, specify the criteria for the award and what top-notch advice your financial planner may have used to earn it such as a special project he completed with one of the following demographics: young professionals, retirees or parents of young children. Award announcements are ho-hum, but if they can be substantiated with useful information provided by this expert, all the better.

I like the idea of specifying the criteria for the award, try to spin it to be useful/interesting/compelling to clients and prospects. thanks.

Make sure to include "voted/awarded as 4 under 40 for best financial planners by ## magazine" in his bio and on the boilerplate on every release for him.

Pitch him to a young CPA members club or a young certified financial planners association as a speaker.

The clincher is that (if I understand this right) your client is being recognized by his industry - or by his peers as one of the very select few outstanding individuals. That should serve as a great referral opportunity. As long as it isn't a recognition given to anybody who buys into the idea. There have been numerous situations where someone is advertised as one of the only XYZs in the area only to find out that he was the only one willing to pay the money to have them say that. It didn't mean a thing!

    Good Luck!
