Topic: Website Critique

New To Blogging. Critique And Help With My Blog.

I am changing careers from corporate to collegiate teaching, and wanted to launch my change with a blog on providing real life examples of marketing, and through them highlight aspects of marketing. Can you check it out at https://marketingshiksha.blogspot.com and let me know what I am doing right and what I could do better? This is the first ever blog that I have attempted.

    I like the content. Here are thoughts for improvment.
    1) add pictures... it breaks up the monotony
    2) add a picture of yourself...
    3) move the sign up box closer to the top where it will be more prominent

    What's the goal of your blog? Is it to simply self-publish some ideas for your own amusement, or is there a business goal underneath?

    The articles are written in a friendly voice, with clear examples. A great first effort.

    The "twittering shekar" has a link that's not click-able, as does the "about me"

    (Aside: shiksha sounds a lot like "shiksa", which is a non-jewish female)

    I agree with Frank.

    What's the goal of your blog? Is it to simply self-publish some ideas for your own amusement, or is there a business goal underneath? Make it clear what action you want the reader to take: hire you, listen to you, or pass your article along, etc.

    The articles are written in a friendly voice, with clear examples. A great first effort.

    Thanks Frank for the specific comments. I am still a little challenged with using Blogger to its full capability especially around images. Your suggestion on the email box is a good one, and I will act on it.

    Jay: The goal is twofold - since I have always been only a practioner, I wanted to improve my observation of marketing principles in action and more importantly articulate it to enable learning. I thought writing regularly would help do that. Second, is to create a reputation and positioning for myself as an experienced marketer worth listening to. At this point of time, I don't have a monetizable business goal in mind with this blog. Thanks for pointing out the problems with links...will check it out. I am using a standard blogger.com template

    Thanks for the tip on the meaning of a closely similar sounding word. At this point, I am hoping that there is not too great a downside.

    Great comments above ... I agree wholeheartedly. One thing I recommend if you have the ability and funds to do so is have a custom design for your blog. Your writing is too good for a blogspot template. You have a great blog name and great writing and then an amatuerish look.

    If you keep this one, the date above the title of the current post, in the lime green section, disappears into the green (not enough contrast to see the white text).

    Best of luck to you, I thoroughly enjoyed working in the higher education environment; it is continually energizing! I wager you will enjoy it immensely.

    Very interesting content - many people will benefit from it.

    One suggestion, if you want to be found in search engines, consider what people might search for - that would bring them to you.
