Photography Website

GENERAL CRITIQUE
www.redumbrellaphotography.ca

I designed & built the site myself. I'm fully aware that there are wrinkles to be ironed out when viewed in Safari -those changes will take place when I have the time.
With that said, assuming many of you are using a browser other than Safari, I'd love your thoughts & suggestions!

WEB STATS

I'd also LOVE help with understanding my stats. I'll list the stats from the past month --can anyone tell me what they mean and whether they're good or bad?? haha..I really have no clue what to be aiming for!

-280 visits
-1105 page views
-average of 3.95 pages per visit
-15.36% bounce rate (is this good? bad??)
-average time on site 2:57
-new site visits 74%

Thanks in advance!!!

-280 visits = The number visits to your web site. You should look for unique visits to see how many people visit. This stat includes repeat visits.

-1105 page views = Number of pages viewed by all visitors.

-average of 3.95 pages per visit = This is the number of pages, on average, your visitors looked at. More important is which pages the looked at.

-15.36% bounce rate (is this good? bad??) = This is good. This number means the percent of visitors who left the site without looking at more pages.

-average time on site 2:57= Amunt of the average time spent by visitors on site. Is taht enough time t look at your portfolio. YOu can test that yourself.

-new site visits 74%= Okay so this is like Unique visits so not so bad. 74 % of the 280 were unique.

Of course, you have to deduct the visits you have made to the site, that is why uniques are important.

You site looks good and is easy to use.

This is good, but more importantly, how many people contacted you? Remember that the goal of your business website isn't to get visitors, it's to get clients.

Harry describes the meaning of your statistics well.

I'd suggest that your email address is click-able on all your pages.

The link to "The Wedding Planners Institute of California" is broken.

Your pictures are clear, and highlight your business offerings well.

Very nice site... you have good photography skills...

Now, to add on to what Jay said, I would ask you these questions:
    Who is your target customer?
    Where are they located?
How will they find you? your website?
What do you feel is the purpose of your website?
How does the website drive business your way?

Then ask, are those people visiting my sight from West Overshoe, Iowa or from one of my target markets?

Hope all this helps.... You are a fabulous and gifted photographer/artist. I would like to see you get the recognition you deserve...

Kathleen is right on with that advice. She pretty much said everything I was going to ... the one thing I would add, considering you are having issues with how your site is showing up in browsers, swing by https://www.browsershots.org, and that will show you exactly what people from many different browsers are seeing when they look at your site.

Nice to see you are using Google Analytics - you can also tell what kind of browsers people are using to view your site, so you will know if there is a large part of your audience having trouble with it. One tip -- learn how to set up the conversion goals and be sure to use that feature.

I usually don't recommend a start page -- but I think that photo you have chosen just makes people want to see more. Make sure you use Stumbleupon to stumble your pages - instant traffic will work for you.

But like Kathleen said, make sure you add at least 2-300 words on your entry page to give search engines something to grab onto ... unless you will be using https://www.redumbrellaphotography.ca/story.htm as your home page. You want to make sure your link juice is flowing to the right page.

Good luck and wow, great great photos. And the font you chose for your logo is just about perfect.

Overall your site is very clean and nicely designed. I think photography sites need to focus on the photography and not be drowned out by other design elements. Good Job.

I have a friend who is a photographer who has a a website. One thing that really increases the number of visitors is that he allows clients to order photos from his site. I believe most of the mechanics involved with this are set up through his photo finisher. For example after a wedding people can visit his site and enter a code that allows them to enter a gallery for their event. They can order photos through this. This expands the market of his photos to more than the wedding party. Guests can now order prints as well creating a new customers. These people will know have a buy in and be more inclined to remember him as the photographer and thus use him in the future.

    His site is at https://www.oliverphotography.com/.

    I hope this helps,

    Mike
