Need Mobile Advertising Information

Posted by clpsf on 2000 Points
I've spent days researching mobile advertising and I've called mobile advertising agencies and ad networks. I'm still waiting for just one of them to actually call me (although I've gotten emails saying they will).

My company will be both (a) ad publishers (selling text ads on cell phones to advertisers who want to reach our target market) and (b) advertisers (buying advertising space on cell phones and online, traditional ad placements, email, direct marketing, etc.). I know next to nothing about mobile advertising. I'd appreciate greatly if you would help me with answers to the following questions. I know some of these would be answered with "it depends," but if you can base it on a specific scenario you conjure up and give me an answer based on that, I'd really be grateful. If I get just a little guidance, I can figure the rest out (I hope!). :-)

What is the average CPM cost for a text ad on cell phones (ballpark is okay)? Is CPM the most used format or are there other pricing formats that are equally popular?

I've heard of banner ads on cell phones (I don't yet have Internet connectivity on my cell phone . . . I'm working on it).

Are mobile banners static or animated?
What are their average size limitations (in kilobytes, not pixels)?
What are their disadvantages (I'm assuming they slow down page upload and create other issues)? Their cost (or a place where I can see a rate card)?
Are our target audience (the users of our cell phone service) charged for receiving a banner / graphic?

Where can I get statistical reports concerning the results of cell phone advertising (preferably just stats about the cell phone portion of a campaign, but if not available, then the results of a combined cell phone and other medium campaign or case study)?

Do you know of any published rate cards (URL) that disclose mobile advertising rates?

Any other tips, things to do and not do, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
