Tools For Communicating A Price Increase?

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
Our graphics and printing company is increasing prices (after 10 years). Clients are indivduals and local businesses.

We are following most suggestions offered by pros, such as George E. Cressman 'The Right Way (and the Wrong Way) to Increase Prices' in this very site, i.e. 1. Doing it with confidence and no fear, 2. offering cheaper alternatives, 3. announcing it beforehand with a campaign and offering the same prices to existing customers upto a specific date, etc. BUT...

The question is not what to say, but HOW to say it!

So, we need some good creative ideas to form a campaign:
e.g. sending letters or giving leaflets? having announcements on the reception desk? Putting stickers on invoices?

We will appreciate any suggestions!

I would not use the "its the cost of energy and economy" excuse -- I think that is a sad excuse that makes a company look weak. So how are you substantiating the price increase -- are you printing on thicker stock, more precise cutting, more detailed printing?

Hi. I just read an interesting article about just that. Of course I got the link from one of my Marketing Profs newsletters!

We have decided what to say, (a combination of valid explanations, the most important one being that we have kept the prices steady for 10 years) but HOW to say it to them!

My boss is not good in talking and words and he will not communicate well face-to-face, as Jon (sans prix) suggests, and NOBODY else can replace him in such a direct method, as this is a family business.

Something else is needed, such as sending letters or giving leaflets? having announcements on the reception desk? Putting stickers on invoices?

Something creative, something direct but soft. Any ideas?
