Ideas On Selling Airtime For Start-up Tv Program

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm an independent NYC-based Producer (Start-up) applying for a slot on a Regional TV Cable Channel.

I need to therefore sell Airtime directly to Advertisers or Advertising Agencies. Also, how can I determine what Agency sells what Product Advertising? I'm thinking this would help determine a pitch to the agency saying my program would be a great platform to advertise this xxx product. Alternatively, is it done to call and ask them this information? Is that a good idea?

Any ideas on how to go about this?

Alternatively, should I use an experienced media selling rep on a commission basis? If so, how do I locate one?

Any ideas will be well-appreciated, thanks.

Thanks so much for your response. Yes, I'll keep this in mind. It's an encouraging response.

I have seen it's difficult to get contact info to the person/department responsible in the company for making such decisions.

The current sample program to the TV Station is a seminar on using Apple programs. So this particular episode is geared towards Filmmakers and Editors. And I feel, running an Apple Ad would be a perfect fit, besides ads from educational institutions for the same. I have to think of other good fits too. I will try to approach them with a sales kit as you suggested, but it's easier said than done!
