How To Market Aerial Photography And Video Service

Posted by Anonymous on 25 Points
Hi, I have a very small operation, we offer aerial photography and video (video is the primary focus) via a professional remote control helicopter. We shoot in HD and can film in locations where a full size aircraft can not such as low and close locations. Our goal is to market to the right people in the production business like television, commercials, feature films so we can get some work along those lines. Problem is I have no idea where to start. Our budget is low for now but my strength is in anything that has to do with the internet or computers. We also do photos for golf courses, real estate and businesses.

I have designed our website you can check it out at www.skycamusa.com any ideas would be helpfull. Thanks.

I'd suggest focusing on a specific niche you're interested in (whether it be local TV, commercials, real estate, etc.). Create a webpage/article specific to the niche, highlighting your benefits to them, comparing your services with the competition highlighting price, availability, time, quality, etc. Then identify how the niche communicates internally: magazine, website, ezine, conferences, etc. and be there.

You say you would like to do television, commercials, and feature films. I feel like you should concentrate on commercial first. Television and film producers often have deep enough pockets where the savings you offer may not be enough incentive to hire you. However with commercials you often have smaller businesses that want to do commercial and they may want some aerial photos/film but feel that it is cost prohibitive so they go with different ideas.

You will have to fight hard to get customer on the internet:

there has been a steady decline in aerial photography searches since 2004. Currently there are about 1/4 the quantity of searches since then. I recommend getting in contact with ad agencies and commercial production companies and offering your services.

Why don't you work with some event planners. They always take photos and this might be something new for them. Obviously we're talking about outdoor events...but weddings, skiing, homecoming football games. There's a lot out there.
