Materials To Trade Show; How Much Should I Bring?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
We are a very small company, a new on-line baby store. I have attended shows before with about 1000 or so people. I just signed up for a booth at a 2 day Trade Show / Kids Event with over 200,000 people in attendance.

All I can afford to bring are postcards with our store information with a coupon and some cute picture frame magnets. Any suggestions on how many of these items I should bring with me?

Thanks for your help.

For my company, I usually only bring a small number of informational brochures and only give them to those who will really read and use them. For something like a coupon for an online store, though, where they will use it later even if they didn't take time to talk to you, I'd probably bring about enough for 25-50% of the attendees at the show. In this case where that would be so cost-prohibitive, perhaps just 15-25%.

Thanks for the responses... so the event is a Kids Faire at the Alameda County Fair grounds in N. California. I am flying in from Texas for it.
It says over the 2 days they expect 225,000 guests and in the area where I will be at least 100,000 pass through. The event is from 10 - 5 sat and sunday.

    Thanks.

Can you ship some of your merchandise to actually sell there - maybe something small like accessories? I agree with above posters that you won't give away too much marketing collateral and what you do give away will be tossed. Focus more on collecting names from people - hold a raffle for a $100 gift certificate worth of merchandise. Add those people to your email newsletter list/mailing list. Take notes from anyone that seemed very interested so you can follow up with a phone call. Hand out coupons generously.
