How To Market Advanced Telephony Products?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello,

We have an advanced telephony product which can provide automated directions to the office, take appointments, do reminders, identify customer responses (for eg: pizza toppings automatically) and even collect payments over the phone. The automated system is very advanced and is speech driven like what you find in a fortune 500 company.

The product has many man years in development of the product. All this sits on your PBX box and there is no hardware/software to purchase or maintain.

We are looking into various verticals such as health care, saloons, carpet cleaners, chiropractics, small businesses etc.

Who will be the best takers and how can we market them?

We will be starting to visit trade shows for healthcare shortly and will be seeing the results (positive hopefully).

But can someone suggest the best business vertical to chase with such kind of advanced telephony products.

Thanks.

Have you spoken with your various target audiences? I'm guessing that if you do a series of interviews with representative customers in each of 4 or 5 segments, you'll very quickly identify which are most likely to buy/try and what features are most important to them.

We recently completed a study in a different category/industry with the same general objective -- to identify the segments most likely to purchase, and what benefits are most important to each one -- and it really was an eye-opener for the client. There were even some surprising regional differences and unexpected segmentation options.

You can do this yourself, of course ... by setting up and structuring a series of interviews. Alternatively, this can be outsourced to an experienced market research professional. It depends on how much time and expertise you have and how important the answer is to your company. A middle ground would be to get a market researcher to go through the planning process with you, and then execute yourself. The pro will keep you from coming up with a study design that has built-in biases. If you have that, you could get results that are exactly wrong -- and that could cost you a bundle.

What geographic market are you serving, mchapala? The market research approach may depend on WHERE your primary target audience is located. Let me know that and I will check out some options for the market research and let you know what the cost would likely be.

If more convenient, feel free to contact me offline, using the email address in my profile. If more convenient, we can also talk by phone. Just let me know what you prefer. Or I can put you in touch with a market research consultant who can work with you to set up the research parameters and you can implement on your own.
