For under $200 you can offer a large sum of money, a car, etc. as a "hole-in-one" prize by obtaining an insurance policy (google it). Offer the prize of your choice for the hole-in-one portion and as a bonus prize, offer some type of complimentary coupons to your restaruant (buy one entree, get one free or a simple $25 coupon, etc.) and maybe include a menu with a map so they can visualize what you serve and where you are at. Be sure to include all information such as website, phone numbers, etc.
Note: If you offer a car, motorcycle, etc. you may be able to contact a dealership and they will even pay the $200 to have their car sitting out near the hole (if the course allows it. And be sure to get on a par 3 hole that is of makeable distance for the majority of the players).

Can you find a big "cut out" of a buffalo (or elk, or something like that) and set it out on the fareway at the half way yard marker (or so) and have a gift certificate to your restaurant for the first person to hit it on their drive. Or maybe you move it up closer and have smaller certificates for everybody who hits it.

    Good Luck!

Thank you both for your responses. Both great ideas. I am not sure I understand how to offer a big cash prize or car for $200. But I am definitely interested in offering some kind of coupon or incentive to visit our restaurant. I especially like the idea of having a bison or elk on the fairway, I like how the idea relates to our business and area.

Either a weekend retreat or a mounted moose head.

The big prizes are usually for a hole in one on a hole. There are insurance companies that underwrite it and that is why they are not the cost of the prize. The chance of a hole in one is very low and they acutally can calculate it for the particular hole. They use this and the cost of the prize to determine the premium.

I think your better bet is to give a prize to either each person or each foursome. You could have a number of prizes of varying values and have a "spin the wheel" competition. Have less of the of the more expensive prize a free night and more of the less expensive Buy one Get one Free meals..

Expanding on the Bison idea you could have a bison that if they hit it with their drive they get a free night's stay and meal. You could put a string circle arond it and balls that land in the circle get a free meal. You could then have a larger circle and give two for one meals for balls that land in that but not in the other. You could then give a coupon to everyone else.

I really think you want to take adantage of the opportunity to get something in everyone's hands.

Have you thought about having food samples at your hole. That could be another great way of letting people know about what you do.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

Great idea to have toothpicks with your grilled specialties at the hole! (Make sure it stays hot!) Also a good idea to get something in everybody' s hands to drive business to your place. I had a tournament a few years ago that everybody got a cigar with a sponsor's name on it and that went over very well.

    FORE!

I think what we are going to do is serve a shot or appetizer food. If we can do oyster shots, I am definitely in. I will see how likely getting a bison cut out will be. I like the target and circles with prizes. Definitely everybody that comes through the hole will get at least a coupon. These are great ideas. I am going to keep this discussion open until I come back in the office tomorrow. Thank you everybody for your responses.

I'd like to mention just one additional idea. Take a picture of each foursome at your hole. You can follow-up after the event with a mailing of their photo along with additional coupons. This works well via e-mail as well. You could partner with a local photographer to take the photos -- or better yet, tap into a photography club at the high school/local college. It's a win-win!
