Service For Graphic Design Template Customization

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
I am starting a new business that customizes graphic design templates (brochure, newsletter, postcard, etc). Having trouble with simplifying the process so potential clients don't get intimidated or frustrated, please take a look:https://www.readydesign.com/ourprocess.html, any ideas to lessen the steps would be appreciated!

The first 5 steps can be combined into 2:

    1. Choose from our vast selections of print designs (Template starts at $99)
    2. Click on the link "Customize this template". (Have pricing on the customized template and the questionnaire, with an option instead of the form to "contact me").

Jay is right about having pricing on each items page. I would include pricing for printing there.

The "Home - Our Process - Contact Us" are very hard to see. Once I click on products these three buttons do not seem to work. They seem to change the header some but not the main content.

I personally would not design the site with frames as it can cause lots of these issues. There are many cool Content Mangement Systems like Joomla that are database and cms driven. I just looked at the code and it appears that you are customizing another sites layouts so this might be unavoidable. You need to make sure that your links in the header apply to the whole page and not just the frame.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

I think this could easily be condensed into 3 easy steps. Everybody loves a simple 3 step program. I would design the opening web page with three super instinctual buttons marking step one, two and three. Step 1 is highlighted.

Person clicks on Step 1; Make this your step 5, let them choose what product they want (brochure, newsletter, banner etc.) At this point they can choose what package they need. They are then sent to the STEP 2 page.

Step 2; This is where they can choose a template design. Once they choose they are directed once again to the Step 3 page.

Step 3; This is where they fill out the request form and the short questionnaire. After the client hits "finish" and they are given a confirmation explaining that they will get an e-invoice emailed to them and then once it is paid their product will be in production.

    Is this possible?

I've been in the industry for 20 years, and built a customizing template solution nearly 10 years ago on the net.
You're probably not going to like my answer, but I didn't find it easy as 1, 2, 3. The world has a short attention span and I would probably have left after going through the first part or 2.
Reading into your info above, you're trying to fit to the 'system' you are provided rather than what customers want.
I don't want to be too negative, but unless you have tremendous SEO or way to get people to this page, I don't think it's going to do too well. Why? Because there are plenty of sites where you can add your text and images and it creates a press ready file on the fly and then you can select your printing. My team created this concept years ago for large clients so remote offices could add their own info to corporate controlled branded pieces. Later renditions of this concept are far above what you have going here, however, you do have nice templates.
    Recommendations:
fix the typo on the home page 'can not' to 'cannot'.
Answer these questions in an FAQ- what do they get when they are done? press ready PDF? Do they get the actual template application file? What do type changes cost later?
Even though you aren't building web sites, you should look at monstertemplate.com and create drop down menu's with an optional fill in text box for some of your customization questions. Why? Because if your audience needs this service, they may be clueless to answer your questions to the level you can act on.
What you want to ask is, is this for B2B or B2C? Tech, education, industrial, retail or other theme etc?
    Good luck!
