How Do I Get My Name Out There

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I work for Zimmer Air Service helicopter company we have a hangar in chatham and this one is in Thunder Bay ... the machines are sitting on the ground because our name is not out there enough.... there is ops for mining, tourism, scouting, survey and many other things up here but nobody knows we even exist....we are always last in the books obviously cause of the name Zimmer Air Service. Anyways I was wondering if you have any ideas to get a smaller heli company more known in the industry....our summer ops are busy with spraying etc....it's winter we need to work on....thank you.....JManion

Get out and make some sales calls. Find and create opportunity for youself. They aren't going to call you if you were first in the yellow pages.

First, pick any one of the niches you mention (mining, tourism, etc.). What does your company do that the competition doesn't/can't?

Then, start focused networking. Are there conferences, professional organizations, meetings, websites, blogs, etc. where the decision makers for these niches congregate? Ask people in these niches specifically what you can offer to them that would be of use, and give it to them!

From your brief I understand you have never done any marketing of your product. You should start with a business plan stating your sales objectives, target, seasons, people assigned to sales, expected profit and commissions on sales.
Then set a communication program. Consider using magazines dealing with tourism, word of mouth using new media (example You Tube), do some PR (invite key press representatives for a small trip so they can write in the press about the experience with your company), contact a billboard company to have your ad in high circulation spots, print handouts to give away to travelers in hotels, airports, etc. Make special packages to offer in hotels (with a commission for the hotels), shopping malls. Make sure you have a brochure available in the main travel agencies and make sure you develop a business arrangements with those. Follow up closely. An ad agency could be a great help to prepare the ads and advise. Good luck!
