    You can use either quicktime or flash to show videos on a website. We use quicktime at our church to show videos. This allows you to use H.264 encoding. It is not that hard to do. Ours is not streaming but allows one to start watching before the entire file is downloaded. Google embedding quicktime and you should get all the information you need.

    To do live streaming, you can use Justin.tv, Mogulus or Ustream. We use Ustream to broadcast www.HubSpot.tv live every Friday at 4pm EST. We also then take a recording and post that in iTunes as a marketing podcast.

    You need to have a player for people to see your videos, for example quicktime, windows media or flash, and a streaming server to serve the video. I've used streamsolutions.co.uk, who are quite affordable.
