Question

Topic: Customer Behavior

New Customers

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi I run a fashion website and a very high percentage of the marketing we do is focused around existing customer and those who have just subscribed to our newsletter.
The only real marketing that is done outside that is product placements in various magazine, and yet our retention rate each week is below 35%.
My questions are
is this normal for a fast fashion website?
and if it is not how can i turn these figures around?
Thanks

I've seen higher bounce numbers, and I've seen lower.

The real trick is to find customers and media channels that already have a interest in the theme where your web site resides. Marketing through fashion magazines is likely why you are getting a 35 percent retention rate. If you tried advertising in 'Field and Stream' or 'Hockey News', I'm certain you would see much lower retention rates.

What would happen if you began licensing your enewsletter content to another industry unrelated to yours but had a strong interest in fashion and clothing? If you could write and release content to similar or ajcent industries with large customer bases to yours, I think you might find that the exposure would eventually cause a cross over of new people to your web site. If you could leave a link to your web site in the monthly content, it would happen even faster. I have an idea how you could test this. Contact me via my profile and let's discuss what I have in mind.

How do you know what your bounce rate is? Are you using Google Analytics? You can set up some funnels and find out what pages people are leaving on. This might help you optimize those pages.

What is your goal? Do you want people to make a purchase? One of the keys with commerece sites is to make sure that people land on the appropriate page. Be sure that your newsletter is bringing people to the most appopriate page for the topic, not just the home page. This will increase the likely hood of someone taking action.

    Hope this helps,
