Ladies Nite At The Garden Center

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We are considering a "ladies nite" to get the women out for shopping Christmas gifts and home decor at our garden center. We've never had one before and feel like effective, clever advertising will be our best bet. Other nurseries in town offer; Wine, Women and Wreaths for instance. We will not be serving alcohol, but are considering having it catered. We also thought about music like a string quartet or pianist. May even a local gardening celebrity. We want to promote gift shopping and Christmas decor, not so much trees and shrubs. The name of our company is Tree Top Nursery. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What about a singles night vs women only? Think about it. I worked with a grocer who did a singles night -- thought it was insane-- and it packed them in. I'm married now and would only go to a similar event with my husband-- cause I might be the inspiration but he loves being the mechanic. He'd be hurt if I made that decision alone. When I was single and in a garden center during the holidays-- the place was always 8 to 1 with single women. So all you are doing is repackaging what is already a woman dominant shopping event. Single men are intimidated to walk in alone, and doing a singles event might bring in shoppers you might only see at the big boxes.

If you're catering go with an espresso bar. It goes well with some classical music.

Do a drawing for a free day of interior decorating by a local person. That person could be on hand to offer suggestions. My wife used to do this and shoppers love it

Coffe and Tea bar - a nice touch. Wine is nice, but drinking and driving litigation can put a real damper on the Christmas Season.

GNO (Girls Night Out) is a well known phenom. I think it will only get bigger. My wife joined a Ladies only golf league called Chicks with Sticks. She loves it.

    As for a name....

Advent and Eve (Hope enough folks know what advent means)

Miss or Mrs Clause Night Out.

    Stuffing Stella's Stocking!

Stock and Stroll Sans Santa (its shopping night out for Ladies only)

My local Home Depot is doing a similar thing. They are doing a wine and cheese. In little tiny letters down at the bottom of their poster they state "non-alcoholic wine". My wife and I aren't heavy drinkers or anything, but we were at HD last week and my wife scoffed at the sign and was insulted by it. Is there something else you could offer other than non-alcoholic wine? Or, is there some way you could offer real wine?

Well, if your commander of spelling and punctuation is prepared to use ladies rather than ladies’ or lady’s and night instead of night or even knight than I would surprise your customers and show that your apparently sloppy grammar was, if fact, intentional. Get a horseman in full armour to treat them to a special trip to your very own Camelot on the night!

And teach the apostrophe illiterates of Main Street a lesson which your customer’s won’t forget for years!

    Tree Top Nursery

Have a craft session creating a beautiful tree topper for their Christmas trees or featuring artisan-created tree toppers being sold (for a charity, perhaps?).

For refreshments, I like the idea of an espresso and/or non alcoholic spritzer bar (make sure there are some unique offerings), and a "fork-bites" dessert spread: rich, decadent desserts served in fork-sized bites so people can try many without getting overstuffed.
