I'd recommend that you look into working with an established and successful Affiliate marketing company like Commission Junction. There are others out there. I've worked with CJ and had good experience.

Commission Junction and Google dominate the affiliate markets already. But if you are up for it, here is where you can buy software and take on te big boys:

As darcy points out there are many software applications out there but I agree with tandembike that going on your own is difficult at first.

jcrooks post is very helpful as well. Some very large enterprises use those services as well so you'll be in good company.

What or for what do you want to become an affiliate marketer of?

Most companies offering affiliate marketing opportunities will offer you full training and give you a roadmap how to succeed and what skills and resources you need.

Or are you looking at those financial leeches who promise the earth through an affiliate programme which makes it’s money by teaching you (For a payment of course) how to make a “Fortune” by teaching other idiots the secrets of becoming a potential affiliate marketing millionaire?

To quote Seth Godin in his recent blog – don’t do this, they are all lying!

    Dear Dersoto,

I would say the first thing to research would be potential products. Go with something you have a level of expertise or knowledge about. Nothing beats working with a product you are passionate about and that is the first step to success.

MarketGoGo's suggestion of starting out with an established affiliate marketing company is priceless, as it reduces the learning curve substantially and will allow you to get out there that much faster. Once you have gained experience and tasted success, you can branch out on your own with a custom solution.

I agree with Steve that the websites which promise you riches and glory with just a single signup are more often than not a load of bull, but don't shy away from spending some money on a couple of ebooks, etc which can give you a lot of information about the field you are trying to get into.

    Hope this helps.
