Help With Improving Cart Conversions

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
My webstore www.somethingniceforkids.com.au recently launched into the kids clothing market. While I have have a regular stream of traffic of both returning and new customers, I find that customers often place items in the shopping cart but leave them at that stage. I have been reading on different tactics, but my webdesigner feels that I am barking up the wrong tree.

I would like to get some feedback on any obvious stumbling blocks that are stopping my customers from continuing with the sale and then approach the designer to make the changes as needed. I know there are a couple that need to be looked at, but I would like to know if there are other barriers that i havent picked up yet.

Please let me know your thoughts and advice regarding this.

Having to create an account/password to purchase/checkout should be optional, not mandatory.

Some shopping cart software tools have a requirement of creating a user account, others don't. The problem with your site is the information was required before I was 100% certain I wanted to pay for the items.

As for accounts, they should be optional, not mandatory. An optional account allows me to save checkout time in the future, saving my information for the next time I purchase from you. Ideally, ask me if I had an account when I fill out my order form and if not, allow me to optionally save the info.

I am with the others. I shop online a lot and usually do not need to set up an account. You can get someone's billing and shipping information and then ask them if they would like to save this information for use in the future.

Some sites ask me if I would like to check out without saving the information or create an account. I usually opt not to have an account as I do not want all these accounts hanging around at on the net (which I may never remember the password for).

Ask people if they would like t receive emails about specials or new items (I would have a box for each). This will allow you to email people occassionaly.
