Do Image-based Google And Yahoo Ads Take Longer?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I've created text-based adwords campaigns on Google and Yahoo that have been successful very quickly. Sometimes from the first day.

But I've been told by a rep from Yahoo that image-based campaigns are different, and that it can take a month to let things settle out.

His basic point was that image-based ads are more like branding -- they take time to sink in and have an effect.

After 3 to 6 weeks, he says, you can get a sense for which ads are working on which sites, and optimize the campaign. But you can't expect an image-based campaign to be successful before then.

This sounds suspiciously like salesman fluff to me, but -- OTOH -- I don't think Yahoo can make a living by tricking people into 6 weeks of spend and then say, "well, I guess it didn't work. See ya."

So the question is, do any of you have experience with image-based placement campaigns on Google or Yahoo, and is it true that those types of campaigns don't start to see a return for several weeks?

Thanks,

Greg

Images are used in Google Maps and they take sometime to be approved.

I have had no success at all with image based ads on google or Yahoo. Text links are far better.

NO real harm to try because the click cost is the same but don't expect too much
