Promoting A Series Of Children Books

Posted by Lorenz Lammens on 250 Points
Hi,

We were wondering if any of you have any experience with marketing children books (age 7-12)? We want to promote a children book series and already have a website with summaries and games.

We would very much like to get a feel of what you believe works.

Any ideas and/or any experience?

Marketing is my life, I personally think your market is very large. The question is how you gonna get them there. I would find someone who is not afraid to search your contacts, then they would make contact and leave a sample behind for them to read .And simply ask them if they want to add to their collection of merchandise. If I new what the books were about I could give you alist of places you could start. If you have anything on CD you could send me an email dschmitz@geiger.com

Book promotion can encompass many strategies - you may want to hold book signings at libraries, book stores and coffee shops. You can put on kid-friendly special events with storytelling hour, reading some passages from the books. Have people dress up as the characters in your books.

You can also do plenty of online marketing through sites like Amazon, pay=per-click campaigns and using social media (blogging, online forums, networking sites) to promote your books.

You can also launch a full publicity campaign to secure interviews, reviews, commentary, etc. based on the book itself, its author and the 'themes' within the book applying to children.

There are so many things you can do, but the best thing is to create a workable plan first. You want to have a consistent message in all of your marketing efforts. Know your target audience. Put systems into place to track results.

Feel free to contact me, I know a great book marketing/publicity company. [Email address deleted by staff]

You might want to copy the Tupperware model. Let other moms invite their friends and do a book display and discuss books you think are good for their kids. The host might pick a book for free.

If that is successful, enlist another person as your middle-'man' to copy the model.
