I'll quote Franklin D. Roosevelt, U.S. President during the 20th Century's most trying period ('32-'44).

"If I were starting life over again, I am inclined to think that I would go into the advertising business in preference to almost any other. The general raising of the standards of modern civilization among all groups of people during the past half century would have been impossible without the spreading of the knowledge of higher standards by means of advertising."

I think that says it all.

    mintsburger,

Marketing benefits the customer in that it educates them on the product or service they may be considering. Hopefully motivating them to draw conclusions that will lead them to a good purchasing decision. At the same time it benefits the business in that it aids in the evangelizing of information via persuasive communication techniques to its target audience. Lastly it benefits society by creating models of wisdom that reflect the dreams of women and men who have succeeded in providing the product or service society needs. Is there anything else I can do for you?
