Customer Appreciation- Special Events

I am expecting the 500,000th customer to open an account soon and would like to make a splash about it. Large financial services company, many branches nationwide. I am thinking of something that is low cost but would really have a story that i can gained some PR mileage with. Any suggestion/ideas.

    Let them pick the charity you donate to for that year.
    Loan them a corporate car.
    If before the holidays - provide a limo to ease their shopping burden.
    If you offer a credit card, a 5.000,000% interest rate for the year.

    Splash is good just don't set yourself up for the next 500,000....especially if you think it will happen quickly. (within 2 years)

    Check with your business customers and see if they can help you put together a product/services package for the customer and help with the cost.

    I would also play on the number 500,000 (if it's a $500,000 giveaway, sign me up for an account -- and that would make an amazing splash!!) You might award the new account holder a $500 savings bond and match it with a donation to the person's choice of charities.

    You could also purchase a promotional item to hand out to each customer that comes through your doors the rest of the day, with a grand prize going to the winner such as a gift card, savings bond, etc. You will make every customer feel special instead of just the one winner.

    What about the first 499,999 customers? I'd look at doing something for them. Maybe everyone of your first 500,000 customers should be given an automatic entry to a contest where you will put $500k into their account, or pay their mortgage up to $500k, or something similar. Also, as per Gail, play on the "5" theme. Maybe it is a $500k grand prize, five $50k "second prizes", fifty $5k "third prizes", and so on. Of course, you can adjust the numbers to make them work.

    I also like the idea of giving out great credit card rates (e.g. 5% for a year) to a number of winners.

    I think that there is a lot you can do.

    I wonder how you could extend the promotion to the next 100,000 people who open a new account as well?

    How about giving them 500,000 pennies. This might get you some press. Especially if you acutally do it in the form of pennies. You could of course deposit it for them after the big unveiling of the 500,000 pennies.

    If that is still too rich for your blood try a different currency that translates into a lower cost.
