So, You Want A Career In Marketing ...

I recently set up my own website, and as I was setting up the site and working on SEO, I found some interesting results. First off, my company's name is Market GoGo. So, when I searched that in the first few days my site was live, I saw some interesting results. One of the results was from Simply Hired. It showed hiring trends for GoGo Dancers! Not quite what I'm working towards ...

At the top of their site you can search for a specific title (e.g. VP of Marketing). It will show you the trend for postings for that job from April 2007 to the present. I did the search for VP of Marketing (https://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobtrends/trend/q-vp+of+marketing), and it shows an interesting trend where all the hiring for that title takes place between March and October.

So - the question is URGENT, as this should give you something to do as you are starting to wind down towards the holidays. Go on and search out some interesting careers. Then provide a theory as to why the career trends the way it does.

250 points goes to the person the most interesting graph and the best theory as to why the graph looks that way.

    It sounds like you've been reading Malcolm Gladwell's new book, Outliers. In it he comes up with very interesting and plausible reasons why we find seeming anomalies like this.

    BTW, my theory on why VP-Marketing slots are not filled from November through February is this: Marketing VP-types don't typically leave their jobs right before getting a fat bonus check, and that's usually right after the end of the year, in January or February. Therefore job openings tend to occur in February and are filled shortly thereafter ... starting in March.

    If you were a VP-Marketing and were thinking of leaving your company and it was November, and you expected a bonus to be paid in January, would YOU leave before getting your bonus check?

    I did a search for garbage collector and, as expected it is down. Why? Automated truck..;1 guy runs it instead of one driver and 2 guys on the back. Loved watching them smash stuff as a kid.

    Then I searched for "typist". Up and down. Kind of like hunting and pecking.
