500 Points!! Test Ecommerce User Experience

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
We made some adaptations to the ordering process on our website, we would like to make sure it is intuitive and allows people to easily find different quantities and colors of our tables and chairs.

We need your evaluation of the user experience!
Please visit www.buylifetime.com

Try to buy quantities and colors as if you were buying enough to fill a meeting hall for a large organization, then go back and try to buy just 1 or 2 for your home.
Please let us know whether or not you think the process is intuitive, and any other feedback you have about the site.

    Katie,
It wasn't a bad experience. I tried to order a dozen tables and added some chairs. Downside to me is that it reminded me of hot dogs and buns. You can buy 12 hot dogs and 10 buns (or is it the other way around?). They don't match up. I'm thinking, okay, I'll get a dozen 5 foot round tables - now, first question - how many chairs do I need. I figure, Let's give everybody room - so I figure I need 4 chairs per table - that'd be 48. I see the chairs come in a pack of 32. So I get to try and figure out the easiest way to get to 48 and be sensitive to the cost.

Maybe I didn't spend enough time. Generally speaking it wasn't a bad experience for me. Page seemed to open a little too wide for my screen - don't know if we needed the additional attempt to sell on the sidebar. Also, it would have been more intuitive (at least to me) if the page opens up and you see you have tables in your cart - now, I didn't figure I wanted to see the 6' round tables, I wanted to have the chairs pop up so I can order those without going back.

Just my very quick observations - good luck and Merry Christmas!

It seemed pretty simply to me. Good font....easy to locate.

Might be interesting to try it in July when I haven't been shopping online for a month.....practice makes perfect.

It was at least as good as most that I've used and not too many images. I hate images....until I ask for one.

Overall the shopping cart works well and is intuitive. I did have a problem on https://www.buylifetime.com/Products/BLT/PID-24435.aspx. I was able to choose a quanitity but did not find an add to cart or buy button.

I was also surprised that this table did not show up on the fold in half tables. Perhaps there is a little more work to go on all of the cross referencing.

Is there a reason for the quatntities in the multi-packs. From a purchasing stanpoint it might make more sense to allow people to have a variable choice of the quantity and have a sliding per item cost or different price points. Perhaps there are other reasons for the varying quantities.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

In the sort by popup: (https://www.buylifetime.com/Products/BLT/Basketball/PortableSystems/Default..., for example) Alphabetically is misspelled.

Removing items from my cart (at checkout page) doesn't cause the subtotal/total to be recalculate (I need to press the update button to do so).

    Katie,

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but could I suggest a few tools you could use for user testing?

Even though the MarketingProfs community is quite objective, it couldn't hurt to have a few untrained eyes look over your site. For that check out www.usertesting.com

Judge people not by what they say but what they do. Knowing the behavior of actual visitors interacting with your revamped checkout is a good way to determine if it's intuitive. For that check out www.clicktale.com. Watch movies of visitors browsing your website, and much more.

    Cheers,

I only spent a little time on the site but here is my two cents:

When looking at the tables, there is no estimate as to how many chairs would fit around a 5 foot diameter table. I could be ordering too many or too little.

In the play set descriptions there is a line that states additional accessories available, but you have to go to the sidebar to find the accessories. There is nothing listed in related items.
