    How about:

    72 of the best things to buy at the store;

    72 fun ways to enjoy the shopping experience at various hours at the store.

    Pitch the story to business reporters about how the store will manage staffing during the 72-hour blitz. Invite them to witness the goofiness in the middle of the night after staff has been working x-amount of hours.

    Another business story is how the owner believes that this event will help his/her bottom line.

    Good luck!

    Possibly some "dutch auction" items that reduce in price every hour. Maybe a discount if somebody comes into the store in their PJs. Special giveaways during the really odd hours. Maybe a radio remote in the middle of the night. Special deals to shoppers dressed as Santa or elves. See if the local service clubs would do breakfasts each morning for a donation to a charity.

    Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

    Have a scavenger hunt to enter a drawing to win something. Have hourly raffle prizes or discount coupons.
