Instead of trying to start with a big launch, spend time courting some key members to join first. Why? Because in a forum the key is how many people are in it and who are they.

I agree with Jay. The key is to get some well recognized and respectable particpants. You are going to need to personbally invite them an be able to explain to them the benefit to them in participating. It is these names that will draw others. Perhaps these big names will know some others to invite as well.

I'm sorry to be such a dummy, but I don't know what you mean by a nonprofit entrepreneurs forum.

Do you mean that the entrepreneurs are setting up nonprofit organizations and that the CEOs are attending to give advice to these new entrepreneurial organizations?

Or do you mean that the organization you are creating is a nonprofit organization which services the needs of the CEOs of profitable enterprises?

Or do you mean that the organization you are creating is a nonprofit designed to help entrepreneurs, with the assistance of local CEOs of established businesses?

    Thank you.

So it sounds like the forum is designed to serve leaders of small emerging businesses. Having been a small struggling business for many years, I can say that I had precious little time to spend attending ceremonies. It seems to me that if you want to attract the leaders of small emerging businesses, you will need to make it worth their time to be there. You would need to offer something very specific and very tangible and very beneficial to them.

You have talked about trying to attract CEOs, and one post above seem to think that you could attract big names to your event. It seems to me that CEOs of large established businesses have very little interest in spending their time to start ups and entrepreneurs, despite the well-publicized fact this mold growing companies create the most jobs, at least in the US.

From my experience, the folks who are most interested in eating emerging firms and entrepreneurs are those firms only slightly larger, firms which provides services to such firms such as many of the consultants on this forum. You might consider having some of these service firms, such as marketing firms or staffing firms or accounting firms, provide advice, guidance, and/or door prizes to attendees of this ribbon-cutting event.

If I understand you correctly, the entrepreneurs you hope will attend your ribbon-cutting event are already working 70 hours a week, and will need to see real and tangible value from your event in order to allocate time to attend.

Naturally I applaud your effort to aid all governors. As you can see, many folks on this forum donate lots of their time at no charge to try to be of service to others. I very much hope your new venture works out well. Either or me personally, I would focus on getting banks, angel investors, and other potential sources of funding to attend. This may attract the entrepreneurs you are seeking.
