40th Anniversary Event Ideas

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am looking for ideas for a medical school's upcoming 40th anniversary. Any and all ideas are needed, big or small. The focus is on "service to the community".

Thank you!

If you don't already offer them, invite residents to visit your facility for a day or days for complementary screenings including cholesterol, blood pressure and preliminary weight/dietary coaching.

Education is obviously a primary role of your facility, so have students on hand to answer a phone bank or meet/greet visitors with quick, community health related questions.

You may further take these questions and make them and answers available to the public, via media. This activity marks you as experts in said topics, and you may reinforce the anniversary.

When the community visits, make the area in which activities take place look festive, and be sure that everyone who visits leaves with a giveaway with your school's logo/contact information.

Thanks everybody. These are good ideas.

We are looking to do some external events for the community and some internal events for staff, so all these will help.

A few ideas that might kick things off:

    1969
Themed staff/student/parent/alumni party around a 1969 theme… fancy dress, quiz, food, music etc.

    Top 40
List your top 40 achievements and milestones in a limited edition booklet.

40 People who made a difference
Similar to above, but listing stories about past & present staff/students/parents/alumni who contributed to the development of the school (be careful you don't upset somebody by leaving them out… maybe caveat this by "We obviously couldn't mention all the wonderful people who have contributed over the years… but you know who you are!)

    The next 40
Run a competition - probably more fun if this is aimed at the younger students – to see what they imagine the next 40 years has to bring: Technology, Transportation, Home Life, Entertainment…

    Leave a legacy
Commission a sculpture or a piece of public art to commemorate the occasion.

    Establish a "School Archive"
If you don't have one already you could start collecting material relating to the history of the school and ask for volunteer archivists… maybe one staff member and a group of students to collect and collate the material. Maybe integrate this into the syllabus and make it "Living History".

Just a few thoughts, I'm sure they'll spark off some ideas of our own! Good luck and have fun doing it!
