Negotiating Conference Rates

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
We are a small startup and are building physical prescrncr by attending events and conferences. As the economy is slower expect to potentially ask for discounts due to cancellations or availability.

How often has anyone been able to successfully negotiate these efforts? Does providing express interest earlier and then renegotiating provide a better strategy than awaiting till the event secure reduced the unexpected vacancy?

Why not simply contact the conference organizers and ask to be put on "standby", being willing to take a last-minute vacancy if the opportunity is there (in exchange for a much lower cost)?

If you're a speaker or presenter at the conference, you can sometimes get in free and get lots of exposure by speaking. If you have 3 or more people attending, you can get discounts.
